Another trip on the road, this time to Writtle, home of Old Chelmsfordians. The 'O's are one of the few clubs who we have very little competitive history.
Since 2003 when our records and appearance history begins, we've played Old Chelmsfordians just twice, both times in the Olympian League Division One. In the first fixture, on April Fools Day 2017 saw James Paviour's Essex Bhoys defeated 1-0 in a match which included three current members of Simon Thomas's squad this year, notably Brad Vaughan, Michael Sammut and Thomas Kearney.
The league return on the 6th May 2017 gave United some revenge, a 4-2 home win in a side which included current players Patrick Kearney, Brad Vaughan, Michael Sammut and Daniel Williams. Scorers on the day saw Aaron Comerford and Daniel Williams score a brace each.
Old Chelmsfordians have had a great return to the EOFL Premier Division, having been promoted from Division One as champions last season. Going into the final game of the season already crowned champions, they knew a season at the top level of the Olympian League was guaranteed. A 3-3 draw away to Harold Hill ensured they finished the season on a superb 14 game unbeaten run.
This season, currently sitting in 5th, seven points behind United having played the same number of games. They are finishing the season on a high, now eight games unbeaten. However, they are draw specialists at home, drawing 7, winning twice but only losing once. Their two home wins have come with eight goals scored and four conceded, so the fixture does look to be a rather interesting one.
Will United's away form (W7,D2,L3) be good enough to chalk up The O's second home defeat of the season, or are we looking at another draw?
