Second half scare but United secure the points.....

United secured three points to almost guarantee a fourth placed finish in the EOFL Premier Division after a thrilling 5-3 home win against Toby FC.

Joe O'Kane found himself in a starting birth before the warmup due to Aaron Baldwin pulling up with a knee issue. Frank Craik, enjoying his first start last weekend since returning from an injury in January, was a starter once again and he was joined by Tom Elliott, gaining match fitness since an ankle injury kept him out for over three months.

Toby struggled to withstand a fast start by United, with Craik and Tom Kearney linking well down the left. Despite being restricted to shots from distance, the visitors kept themselves in the game utilising quick breaks down both flanks.

Possession and creation of space and chances eventually counted. A quick freekick by Tom Elliott to Joe O'Kane was then played into the path of Ben Burrows who's cross was met by the head of James Warder, the ball well directed into the top right corner. Shortly after, Craik and Kearney linked up again, but the defender did well to end the attack before the arrival of Mike Sammut at the near post.
Craik was in action again, turning inside and firing a curled shot just over the bar.

HT Catholic Utd 1-0 Toby

The second half couldn't have started better for the hosts. Mike Sammut broke up play in the centre of the park, playing the ball to Joe Burton on the left. Burton found Craik who played the ball into Sammut who had carried on his run, but the challenge from the defender ricochet into the area where Warder was there to side foot past the keeper.

O'Kane and Burrows did well to link up down the right and Burrow's near post cross was held well by the keeper. Toby found space down the right but the shot was fired well over.
United's third goal was scored in somewhat unfortunately circumstances. O'Kane played the ball out to Craik who travelled well down the left but was dispossessed but the defender's clearance found Sammut just outside the area. Controlling the ball well, it appeared the incoming defender's left foot inadvertently struck the ball goal bound sending the keeper the wrong way.

Ten minutes after the break an error by Woody Wells who's goal kick found a Toby forward, played the ball into the area and an immediate turn and shot gave the visitors a lifeline. A minute later, Wells rolled out a ball to Jack Leech, but a Toby forward stole a march, with the ball finding its way into the path of another Toby forward who's shot gave Wells no chance. The match had suddenly turned and Toby found themselves in the ascendancy.

Just before the hour, Warder received the ball in the centre circle and played it out wide to Craik. Craik dribbled the ball in-field and struck the ball goalward but unfortunately the ball hit the defender, to sit perfectly for the inrushing Warder to place the ball into the top right corner. It was a goal that the hosts needed to bring some control to the game that they were close to losing.

Within five minutes a clearance cannoned off of Joe Burton to Craik on the left who muscled his way into the area and unleashed a superb curled shot over the keeper into the far corner of the net. Wells was brought into action to tip over acrobatically a few minutes later. Moments after, a clearance by Sammut found Craik who turned and ran directly toward goal, matched by a solitary defender. The defender did well to slow the United forward enough for reinforcements to arrive, but in the confusion of challenges, the ball rolled back to Craik but his shot was saved well by the keeper's leg.

Fifteen minutes to play a cross by Burrows found the head of Warder once again but his directed header looped high and hit the crossbar. A minute later a quickly taken freekick caught the hosts napping, as the winger collected the ball and as he made his way in on the keeper, he played the ball across the face of goal for a tap-in by his fellow striker.
