The Essex Bhoys bounced back from a heavy defeat to record a clinical victory at Harold Wood Athletic. The Wood had started the season with two wins, home victories against Leigh Ramblers and a well fancied Runwell Sports side with a superb 5-2 win. They were sent crashing down to earth following a 6-1 home defeat to new boys ACD United, so this fixture was also about bouncing back!

If you had turned your back from kick off, you would have missed the opening goal. A long ball from the back for Wood found Wells and Clark deciding who was going for the ball, for the forward to steal a march and ping the ball over the back-tracking Wells.

United got back into the game with more possession and pressure, so it was no surprise that an equaliser came as soon as it did. Tom Elliott won the ball back in midfield which found Frank Craik, and it was his ball across the face of goal that gave James Warder the chance to slide in to bring parity to the game.

Craik was on hand again just 5 minutes later, dribbling into the area, he was brought down. The resulting penalty was scored by Warder, firing the ball to the keepers right.

As the game entered the second half, United continued where they had left off but Warder found himself on the sidelines to cool down after a poor call by the assistant. It made no difference as just two minutes playing with 10-men, Craik played in Tom Kearney and his left foot shot found the roof of the net. Kearney was on the scoresheet minutes later as Frankie Senior intercepted a long throw by the keeper, it was his ball into the area that found Kearney, but as his first shot was saved, he pounced on the rebout to side foot the ball past the despairing keeper.

The icing on the cake came with minutes remaining. Substitute Kiah Froud, playing his third competitive game for the club, jumped on a loose ball to drive into the box and lifted his left foot shot over the onrushing keeper to bring an end to a superb afternoon.
